A normal candlestick shows only four prices: open, high, low and close. A footprint chart opens the candle up and shows the volume traded at every price inside it, split into buyers and sellers.
You see where the buying and selling actually happened, where one side was much stronger than the other, and which price levels the market treated as important. Footprint Chart Pro draws this for MetaTrader 5 in 18 styles, with volume and TPO profiles, a Ladder Trader and a full set of order-flow tools.
Footprint Chart Pro is an Expert Advisor for MetaTrader 5 that replaces the standard chart with a full order-flow workspace. Instead of seeing only where price went, you see how much was traded at every price, and whether buyers or sellers did the trading.
A candlestick sums up a whole period with four prices. A footprint candle keeps the same period and the same high and low, but splits it into rows, one for each price level, and shows the volume traded on each row.
| Term | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Bid × Ask | Each row shows two numbers: volume traded by sellers (left) and by buyers (right) at that price. |
| Delta | Buy volume minus sell volume. Positive delta means buyers were more active; negative means sellers were. |
| POC (Point of Control) | The price with the most volume in a candle or a profile. |
| Imbalance | A price where one side traded far more than the other. Covered in Chapter 08. |
Seeing buying and selling inside the candle as it forms.
Real exchange volume on index, energy and metal futures.
Clear activity at each price, even without central volume.
Planning around POC, value area and high-volume zones.
Moving beyond candles and practising in the Strategy Tester.
Marking levels, drawing profiles and planning risk on one chart.
A candlestick shows where price went, not how it got there. A footprint also shows:
Footprint Chart Pro is an analysis and charting tool. Its charts, panels, signals and readings are information, not financial advice, and no reading is a guarantee of any outcome. It never places, modifies or closes orders: the Ladder Trader and Trade Manager are planning tools, and every trading decision is yours alone.
Trading forex, CFDs, futures and other leveraged products carries a high risk of loss and may not be suitable for everyone. Past market behaviour does not guarantee future results. Only trade with money you can afford to lose.
By using this software you accept full responsibility for your own trading decisions. RETAILBERG and Abdul Jalil are not liable for any loss or damage, direct or indirect, arising from the use of Footprint Chart Pro or reliance on any information it displays.

A footprint is only as good as the data behind it. In version 7.00 every row of every candle is built from the real tick history your broker sends to MetaTrader 5, using the standard rules of professional order-flow platforms, so the chart stays as close to the exchange as your feed allows.
Every trade is placed on the row of the price it traded at, with its real traded size. To decide whether it was a buy or a sell, Footprint Chart Pro uses the best information available, in this order:
If the exchange marks the trade as a buy or a sell, that is used directly.
Otherwise, a trade at the ask is a buyer lifting the offer; at the bid, a seller hitting it.
A trade inside the spread is counted by whether price ticked up or down.
When a candle has no tick history at all, for example straight after attaching on a new symbol, an estimate is shown so the chart never goes blank. Give the first load time and the real data takes over.
| Area | Earlier versions | Version 7.00 |
|---|---|---|
| Forming candle | Buy / sell split estimated from price movement | Rebuilt from real ticks several times a second |
| Closed candles | Kept the live estimate | Rebuilt from the full tick record, then locked |
| History on load | Estimated from each candle's open, high, low and close | Rebuilt from tick history, retried until complete |
| Buy or sell | Price direction only | Exchange flag, then bid / ask quote, then price direction |
| Time & Sales | Estimated trade sizes | Replays the same ticks as the footprint |
| Timeframes | History built for the first timeframe only | Rebuilt on every timeframe you switch to |
Footprint Chart Pro is built for CFD brokers and, where available, futures brokers that pass exchange trade data to MetaTrader 5. What the numbers mean depends on which you use:
Futures and stocks with real trade data
Each trade's price, size and side come from the real trade, so the buy / sell split, delta and the shape of volume across the candle follow the exchange. Totals are scaled to the candle's volume as MetaTrader 5 reports it, so the footprint, profiles and summary table always agree. This is the closest view of the exchange that MT5 data can give.
Most forex and CFD symbols, for example XAUUSD
No individual trades exist in this data. Each price change counts as one unit, which is exactly how MetaTrader 5 counts the candle's tick volume, and its side comes from price direction. The numbers show how busy each price was, not contracts: read them as relative activity.
Everything in Footprint Chart Pro is controlled from three places: the top header, the bottom strip of buttons, and the floating panels you open from it. There are no menus or keyboard shortcuts to learn.
The header runs across the top of the workspace. On the left it shows the brand and the market; on the right sit the view buttons.
| Readout | What it shows |
|---|---|
| HIDE / SHOW | Hides the brand name to free space, or shows it again. |
| Symbol & price | The chart's symbol and its live price. |
| Daily change | How far price has moved since today's open, in price and in percent. |
| Trend arrows | Trend direction on 5M, 15M, 1H, 4H and D1: green up, red down. |
| HTF bias | The trend on the 4-hour chart, shown as BULL or BEAR. |
| Current TF bias | The trend on the timeframe you are viewing, for example M5: BEAR. |
Nine buttons on the right of the header control the view.
| # | Button | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Reset | Returns zoom and vertical position to the default view. |
| 2 | Zoom In | Makes candles larger so the numbers are easier to read. |
| 3 | Zoom Out | Makes candles smaller to show more of the chart. |
| 4 | Up | Moves the chart up within the window. |
| 5 | Down | Moves the chart down within the window. |
| 6 | Bar Volume Profile | Adds a small volume profile beside each candle. |
| 7 | Side Panels | Narrows the chart and frees a workspace on the right for floating panels. Press again for full width (see Side Panels workspace). |
| 8 | Button Names | Shows a button's name when you point at it in the bottom strip. |
| 9 | Button Strip | Hides or shows the bottom strip. |
Footprint cells and numbers are drawn on every candle. Best for reading volume at each price.
Candles shrink to a compact view and the numbers are hidden, so you see the wider trend. They return as you zoom back in.
The quickest way to zoom is on the price ladder, the price scale on the right of the chart. Point at it and scroll the mouse wheel up to zoom in, down to zoom out. You can also click and drag up or down on the ladder for a smooth zoom. Press Reset (button 1) to return to the standard view at any time. See the next page.
The price ladder is the price scale on the right of the chart. Point the mouse at it and the scroll wheel zooms the whole chart: from every bid and ask number on a few candles, all the way out to days of price in one view, without changing timeframe or losing your place.
Scroll down to find the level or session that matters, then scroll up over the ladder to read its numbers.
The strip along the bottom holds two groups of buttons. A button with a bright outline is switched on. Turn on Button Names to see each name as you point at it.
Tools such as the Ladder Trader, Trade Manager and Session Panel open as floating panels over the chart. They all work the same way.
The header and strip follow the panel theme you choose in the inputs (Chapter 24). Here they are in the light theme.
The buttons you switch on, your chosen style and your panel positions stay as they are when you change timeframe or symbol on the same chart.
Press Side Panels (header button 7) to give the floating panels a place of their own. The footprint chart narrows to the left, and the free area on the right becomes a workspace where you can park the Ladder Trader, the HTF Candle, the Trade Manager and the other panels, so none of them cover a candle.
Ladder Trader and Mini Chart, HTF Candle, Trade Manager, SYS.CORE Session Panel, the DELTA panel, Chart Analyst and Signal Meter.
The header and bottom strip keep the full width, so every tool and style button stays on screen.
How wide the chart is in this mode is set by Panel width in the Main Panel Position & Size group (Appendix B).
Panels keep their positions, but the chart opens at full width again: press Side Panels once to bring the workspace back.
Footprint Chart Pro draws the same order-flow data in 18 styles, from clean numbers-only candles to full cells, per-candle profiles and heatmaps. Pick the one that reads best for you; you can switch at any moment with the style buttons on the right of the bottom strip (Chapter 04).

Every style can be shown on a dark or light panel, and in any of 16 bull / bear colour themes: Classic green / red, Blue / orange, Cyan / magenta, Lime / pink, Gold / purple, Teal / coral, Sky / crimson, Mint / rose, Orange / dark grey, Green / dark grey, Navy / slate, Navy / gold, White / dark grey, Emerald / white, Cherry / teal and Olive / sandy. Each section shows its style in several of them.
The Bar Volume Profile button in the header adds a small volume profile beside each candle in styles that do not already draw one. Several examples in this chapter show it switched on.
The cleanest style. Each candle is drawn only as its numbers: sell volume on the left and buy volume on the right of every price row, with no candle body, boxes or shading. It keeps the chart calm and shows the most candles on screen.
Best for: traders who want to read the raw bid × ask numbers without anything else in the way.
The same style on light and dark panels, with and without the bar profile, and in a range of colour themes.
Every price row becomes a filled cell with the bid × ask numbers inside. The cell colour shows which side traded more at that price, and its shade is based on volume: the more volume that side traded compared with the busiest price in the candle, the stronger the colour. You can read where the heavy trading was at a glance, before reading a single number.
Rows sit edge to edge with no gaps, and the candle body and wick are drawn as a frame around them.
Best for: traders who like a colour-led view of who controlled each price.
The same style on light and dark panels, with and without the bar profile, and in a range of colour themes.
The bid × ask numbers of every price row, with the candle body drawn as a frame around the rows between the open and the close. The frame takes the bull or bear colour and the wick runs through the middle, so you see the candle shape and the order flow inside it at the same time.
There is no fill behind the numbers, so the chart stays light and easy to scan.
Best for: traders who want classic candle shapes with the footprint numbers on top.
The same style on light and dark panels, in a range of colour themes and alongside other tools.
Each candle becomes its own small volume profile. A solid bar on the left shows the candle body in the bull or bear colour, and beside it every price row is a cell holding the bid × ask numbers, shaded by how much volume traded there. The busiest row, the POC, stands out as a solid highlighted bar.
This is the default style when you first attach Footprint Chart Pro.
Best for: seeing where each candle's volume built up, and the numbers behind it, in one view.
A slim style with no frame and no boxes. A thin candle body and wick sit on the left of each candle, in the bull or bear colour, and the bid × ask numbers run down beside it. There is no separator bar between the two sides, so the numbers read as clean columns.
It keeps the true candle shape visible while taking up very little space, so more candles fit on screen.
Best for: traders who want a light chart with the candle and its numbers side by side.
A full candle drawn in the middle of each footprint, with its body and both wicks, and the bid volume on its left and the ask volume on its right. The candle itself replaces the usual divider, so the price action sits right in the centre of the order flow.
It is the easiest style to read for anyone coming from normal candlestick charts.
Best for: traders who want a familiar candle with sellers and buyers on either side of it.
Instead of two numbers per row, each price shows one number: its delta, the buy volume minus the sell volume. Positive rows are shaded in the buyer colour, negative rows in the seller colour, and the stronger the delta, the stronger the shade. A thin candle body on the left keeps the candle's shape.
It answers one question at every price: who was more aggressive here, and by how much?
Best for: traders who read order flow through delta rather than raw bid × ask volume.
Each candle is split down the middle into two mirrored profiles. On every price row, a bar for the sell volume grows to the left and a bar for the buy volume grows to the right, each labelled with its number. The longer the bar, the more volume traded on that side, so the shape of each candle shows where the buying and selling were heaviest.
A thin candle line runs through the centre, and the POC row is outlined.
Best for: traders who want to see the buy / sell balance as shapes, not just numbers.
Every price row is drawn as two separate cells: the sell (bid) volume in a cell on the left and the buy (ask) volume in a cell on the right. Each cell is shaded by its own volume, so heavy selling and heavy buying light up independently, and the candle body is outlined in the bull or bear colour around them.
Bid numbers use the bear colour and ask numbers the bull colour, so each side is easy to follow down the candle.
Best for: traders who want a classic, boxed bid × ask footprint.
Each candle shows its own value area: the rows where most of that candle's volume traded. Those rows are shaded in the colour of whichever side traded more inside them, and a bracket on the right marks the top (VAH) and bottom (VAL) of the value area, labelled on the chart.
A thin candle runs down the centre between the bid and ask numbers, and the POC row is outlined.
Best for: traders who think in value areas and want them on every single candle.
The most complete single-candle view. Each candle has three parts side by side: a delta profile on the left, the bid × ask numbers in the middle, and a volume profile on the right. Delta bars point the buyer or seller way and carry their value; volume bars show how much traded at each price.
You can read who won each price, the raw numbers, and where the volume built up, all in one candle.
Best for: detailed analysis on a few candles at a time, zoomed in.
The bid × ask numbers inside a candle frame, with a volume profile attached to the right of every candle. Each profile bar shows the total volume traded at that price and carries its number, so you can see at once where each candle did most of its business.
Profile bars take the colour of the side that traded more at that price, and the POC bar is highlighted.
Best for: traders who want the footprint numbers and a per-candle volume profile together.
The bid × ask numbers inside a candle frame, with a delta profile attached to the left of every candle. Each delta bar shows buy volume minus sell volume at that price: it takes the buyer colour where buyers traded more and the seller colour where sellers did, and carries its value.
It shows which prices inside the candle were won by buyers and which by sellers, next to the raw numbers.
Best for: traders who read the candle through delta at each price.
Three styles add a profile to every candle. They share the same data and differ in what sits beside the numbers.
| Style | Left of the numbers | Right of the numbers | Choose it when |
|---|---|---|---|
| 5K Delta Vol Profile | Delta profile | Volume profile | You want everything in one candle. |
| 5L Volume Footprint Profile | — | Volume profile | You care most about where volume built up. |
| 5M Delta Footprint Profile | Delta profile | — | You care most about who won each price. |
These styles carry the most detail per candle. Zoom in on the price ladder (Chapter 04) so the bars and numbers have room, and zoom out when you want the bigger picture.
Wide, gapless candles where every price row is a heat cell. Rows are coloured by how much traded there, so the busiest prices glow brightest and the candle reads like a heatmap of the auction. The bid × ask numbers sit inside each row, the POC row is marked in a bright accent colour, and a thin candle line runs down the side.
The same style button switches between four modes (next page): heat by volume or by delta, with or without extra delta and volume columns.
Best for: spotting the heaviest prices at a glance, especially zoomed in.
Click the Wide style button once to select the style. Each further click steps to the next mode.
| Mode | Heat colour from | Numbers shown |
|---|---|---|
| V | Volume at each price | Bid × ask, centred |
| D | Delta at each price | Bid × ask, centred |
| V# | Volume at each price | Delta | bid × ask | volume columns |
| D# | Delta at each price | Delta | bid × ask | volume columns |
A narrow, uncluttered style: a thin candle on the left and a single bold value per price beside it, coloured buyer or seller. With only one number per row, the ladder of values down each candle is quick to scan, and many candles fit across the screen.
The same style button switches between four modes (next page): delta or volume numbers, or delta or volume shown as profile bars.
Best for: traders who want one clear reading per price without the full bid × ask detail.
Click the Side Ladder style button once to select the style. Each further click steps to the next mode.
| Mode | Shows | Read it as |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Delta number per price | Who was more aggressive at each price, and by how much. |
| 2 | Volume number per price | How much traded at each price. |
| 3 | Delta profile bars | The buyer / seller balance as a shape. |
| 4 | Volume profile bars | Where the candle's volume built up. |
Plain Heikin Ashi candles, with no footprint cells, numbers or profiles. Each Heikin Ashi candle is built from an average of the price action, so runs of same-colour candles show a trend more smoothly and small pullbacks look less noisy than on normal candles.
Everything else on the chart still works: zones, sessions, profiles, bubbles, panels and the summary table.
Best for: reading the trend cleanly, then switching back to a footprint style to look inside the candles.
Plain Renko bricks. A new brick is drawn only when price has moved a set distance, up in the bull colour or down in the bear colour, so the chart shows price movement only and ignores time. Quiet periods add no bricks; strong moves add many.
The brick size adapts to the market's recent volatility, so it suits any symbol without setting it by hand.
Best for: filtering out noise and seeing clean swings and trend direction.
Bricks are not tied to candle times, so the bottom axis does not line up with clock time.
Bid × ask numbers and per-candle profiles are not drawn on bricks.
Use Renko to see the swing, then click a footprint style to look inside the candles.
A footprint and a market profile in every candle. The bid × ask numbers sit inside a hollow candle, and beside it each price row has a line of small TPO squares: the longer the line, the more time price spent at that level during the candle.
The squares are coloured by volume, from cool blue where little traded, through green and orange, to red where the most traded, so you see time and volume at each price together.
Best for: market-profile traders who also want the order flow inside each candle.
Price spent a lot of time here. The market accepted this level.
Price passed quickly. The market moved through this level.
Orange and red rows are where the most volume traded in the candle.
For a market profile across many candles, see the range TPO and the TPO side band in Chapter 11.
Two small tools that add information to the candles themselves: Candle Colour paints the zoomed-out candles by trend, and Candle Stats prints a short summary under every footprint candle.
When you zoom out to the plain candle view, each candle is coloured by where it closed against a reference line: on or above the line it takes the bull colour, below it the bear colour. Long runs of one colour make the trend obvious at a glance.
Candle Stats prints a short block of numbers under the low wick of each footprint candle, with no boxes. Each line is tagged so you always know what you are reading.
| Tag | What it shows |
|---|---|
| del | Delta: buy volume minus sell volume. |
| vol | The candle's total volume. |
| imb | Buy and sell imbalance cells, e.g. B2 S1. |
| dvol | Change in volume from the previous candle. |
| ddel | Change in delta from the previous candle. |
The STAT button opens the Candle Stats panel. STATS switches the whole block on or off, and each row below it switches one line. HIDE closes the panel; the numbers stay on the chart while STATS is on. Stats are hidden when zoomed out and in Heikin Ashi or Renko.
A strip of bars just above the summary table, one bar under every candle. It shows at a glance which candles were busy and which side was in control, without reading a single number.
Every candle on screen gets a bar, so you see the volume of the whole chart. Candles older than the footprint history show an estimated delta, drawn fainter.
The VOL button opens the panel: BARS on / off, MODE VOLUME or DELTA, HEIGHT sets how tall the strip is, and HIDE turns it off. The bars are hidden in Renko.
An imbalance is a price where one side traded far more than the other. A stacked imbalance is several of them in a row inside one candle: a sign that one side pushed through those prices with real force.
Footprint Chart Pro compares the cells diagonally, the standard footprint method. Buyers lift the offer one price higher than sellers hit the bid, so buy volume at a price is compared with sell volume one row below, and sell volume with buy volume one row above. When one side is several times bigger, that cell is an imbalance and is drawn in the buyer or seller imbalance colour.
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Imbalance ratio level 1 / 2 / 3 | How many times bigger one side must be. All three can be changed; defaults 2×, 3×, 4×. |
| Min volume for imbalance | Ignores rows too small to matter, so thin prices do not light up. |
| Bold imbalance text | Draws imbalance numbers in bold so they stand out. |
| Imbalance colours | Its own colour per level (L1, L2, L3) for buyers and sellers; each footprint style has its own set. |
The STK tool finds runs of neighbouring imbalance cells on the same side and marks each run with a box: your buy colour for STACKED BUYERS, your sell colour for STACKED SELLERS. Each box reaches to the right so you can see when price comes back to it.
Turn on the Stacked imbalances alert (Order-Flow Alerts, Chapter 25) for a sound and pop-up when a candle closes with a stack that meets MIN STACK.
Two bubble tools for heavy, one-sided activity: absorption bubbles show where one side was turned away at an important level; power trades show unusually large one-sided volume at a price.
The HVN tool marks the price levels where the most trading took place. An absorption bubble appears on a candle where one side pushed into one of these levels, or into a Supply & Demand zone, and was turned away: that side is trapped.
Turn on the Absorption bubbles alert (Order-Flow Alerts, Chapter 25) for a sound and pop-up when a candle closes with a bubble that meets MIN TRAP.
Power trade bubbles mark prices inside a candle where an unusually heavy amount of one-sided volume traded. A ring in your bull colour means buyers were the aggressors at that price; your bear colour means sellers were.
Without real trade prints, volume is built from price ticks, so read power trades as heavy-activity prices rather than single orders. Clusters at one price, or a big bubble at a turning point, are the ones worth noticing.
Turn on the Power trades alert in the Order-Flow Alerts settings for a sound and an optional pop-up when a candle closes with prints at or above your MINIMUM ORDER SIZE. One alert per candle lists the buy and sell prints and the largest one. See Chapter 25.
A volume profile turns volume sideways: for every price, a bar shows how much traded there. Long bars are prices the market spent time and volume at; short bars are prices it moved through quickly.
Point of Control: the price with the most volume, drawn as a gold line.
Top and bottom of the value area, the band where most of the volume traded.
Lightly shaded behind the profile so the busiest zone stands out.
A profile pinned to the chart edge. The POC also runs dashed across the chart, and each line shows its price.
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Session start time | When the session begins (server time). Also used by VWAP and SYS.CORE. |
| Profile mode | Profile the session, or a fixed number of bars. |
| Volume type | The starting mode: total, delta, buy or sell volume. |
| Mode | What each bar shows |
|---|---|
| TOT | Total volume at the price. |
| BUY / SEL | Buyer volume only, or seller volume only. |
| DEL | Buyers minus sellers, in your bull colour where buyers led and your bear colour where sellers led. |
| T+D | Total and delta side by side. |
Candles older than the footprint history have no volume-at-price data, so the profile is estimated from the candles there. Zoom in on recent candles for the exact footprint profile.
Drag a box over any part of the chart to profile just those candles and prices. Inside the box, the volume profile shows how much traded at each price and the delta profile beside it shows whether buyers or sellers were stronger.
A box can reach back into older history; where footprint data is not available the volume is estimated from the candles. When the profile limit is reached the oldest one is replaced, and a profile that includes the live candle refreshes when a new candle starts.
A TPO profile (market profile) shows time at price. Each price row is a line of small squares: the longer the row, the more time price spent there. The colour of the squares adds the volume, so you see where the market lingered and where it actually traded.
Row length is time: one square for each period price visited that level.
Volume at the price, from cool blue (little) through green and orange to red (the most).
The most visited price, and the value area where most of the time was spent.
A market profile of every candle on screen, pinned to the left or right edge. It changes as you scroll and zoom. The POC also runs dashed across the chart so you can see it near the current price.
Long rows in cool colours are prices the market spent time at without much trading. Rows that turn orange and red are where the volume was; a single red section marks the heaviest area.
Drag a box over any part of the chart to build a market profile of just those candles. The bars on the left of each profile show whether buyers or sellers were stronger at each price.
A live dashboard of the whole session on one floating panel: a minute-by-minute graph of price, volume or delta in the centre, an order-flow radar, an intraday signal dial, a trend dial and live price tiles around it.
The session path, with a dashed line at the session open and the move so far.
One-minute volume across the session, with buy and sell totals and the average.
Running delta for the session, with a dashed zero line.
The session DELTA here is an estimate built from one-minute candles, so it can differ from the footprint delta on the chart. Use it to see the direction of the session, not exact numbers.
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Session start time | When the session begins (server time). Shared with VWAP and the volume profile. |
| Intraday signal timeframe | The timeframe the intraday signal reads, using closed candles only. |
| SYS.CORE: alert (Alerts group) | An alert when the signal changes between LONG and SHORT, with its own pop-up and sound settings (Chapter 25). |
Two time-and-structure tools. SESSIONS boxes the Asia, London and New York sessions so you can see each session's range at a glance. PO3 marks the Power-of-Three cycle: accumulation, manipulation and distribution.
Each session is a see-through box over its candles, spanning the session's high and low and labelled with its name. A session that is still open has a dashed box that grows with the live candle.
Boxes are drawn on M1 to H1; on higher timeframes a session is only a candle or two, so only the session text is shown. Each session follows its own market's local hours, with daylight saving handled automatically.
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Show Asia / London / New York | Which sessions are drawn when the tool is on. |
| Session start and end | Each session's hours in its own local time: Tokyo, London or New York. |
| Days of history | How many days of past sessions are drawn. |
| Broker server clock DST rule | The daylight-saving rule your broker's clock follows: US, EU or none. |
| Session colours | The box colour for each session. |
A sideways range where price builds up before its next move.
The first move out of the range, often a false break that catches traders on the wrong side.
The real move that follows the manipulation.
PO3 draws the cycle as three coloured boxes. It can repeat several times inside one range and appears on every timeframe. Boxes update as each candle closes.
With both on, the lower strip shows the open sessions on the left and the current PO3 phase in the centre. The box colours for each phase can be changed in the settings.
Price areas the market is likely to react to. Fair value gaps mark where price moved too fast to trade much, key levels mark yesterday's and this week's extremes, and supply and demand zones mark where price turned sharply, each with a card of details.
A fair value gap is a price area the market moved through so fast that little trading took place there. Gaps are drawn as boxes and often act as magnets or turning points.
| Control | What it does |
|---|---|
| FVG | Shows or hides the gap boxes. |
| PREV DAY H/L · WEEK H/L · WEEK POC | Switch each key level on or off (see the next page). |
| WIDTH | How many candles each gap box reaches to the right. |
| HIDE | Turns the whole feature off. The FVG button opens the panel. |
Yesterday's high and low, drawn as PDH and PDL lines.
This week's high and low so far, each a labelled line.
The price where the most volume has traded this week.
Supply zones (your bear colour) are areas price dropped away from; demand zones (your bull colour) are areas price rallied from. Each zone is a band across the chart with a card of details on its left.
| Label | What it shows |
|---|---|
| SUPPLY 01 SELL / DEMAND 02 BUY | The zone type, its number and the side it favours. |
| WAIT · REJECT? · REJECT · BREAK | What price is doing at the zone now: waiting, starting to reject, rejecting, or pushing into it. |
| STR % · BUY / SELL % | How strong the zone is, and how much it can be trusted for its side. |
| REV · CONT · RES · INST | Structure: the kind of move that created the zone. |
| B+R · BUYPB · SELLPB | Trade map: how the zone fits the current trend. |
| VOL · DLT | Buying and selling where the zone formed (EST when estimated from the candles). |
| BASE · SMALL · WICK · LOWVOL | Base quality: which checks the candles that formed the zone passed. |
| W · DIST · IN ZONE | Zone width and how far price is from it now, in points. |
| AGE · TCH · RTST | Candles since it formed, touches and retests. |
A delta divergence is when price and delta disagree: price makes a new high but buying (delta) does not, or price makes a new low but selling does not. It can warn that a move is running out of strength. The tool finds them for you in two places: a pane under the chart and a floating panel.
Price makes a higher high while delta makes a lower high. Drawn in your bear colour.
Price makes a lower low while delta makes a higher low. Drawn in your bull colour.
The opposite pairing, often seen in a continuing trend. Drawn dashed and dimmer.
A floating cumulative-delta workbench: candles on top, the CVD line and per-candle delta below, all on one shared time line.
With the panel's alert switched on in the === Alerts === group, a new divergence also raises an MT5 alert and the panel shows its banner. See Chapter 25.
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Divergence pane height | The height of the DIV pane in pixels. |
| Pivot strength | How many candles each side a swing needs before it counts as a high or low. Higher gives fewer, bigger swings. |
| Show hidden divergences | Also draw hidden (continuation) divergences. |
| Draw the paired line on the price chart | Repeat each divergence as a line on the candles. |
| Divergence alerts (Alerts group) | Separate alerts for the DIV pane and the DELTA panel, each with pop-up and sound (Chapter 25). |
Two trend tools. Supertrend Signals draws buy and sell signals, a trend ribbon, a long-term line, a cloud and trend-coloured candles in candle view. The Signal Meter rolls many readings into one score from Strong Sell to Strong Buy.
Shown in candle view: zoom out until the footprint turns into plain candles. Nothing is drawn while the footprint cells are showing.
| On the chart | What it means |
|---|---|
| BUY / SELL | A change in trend direction. |
| S.BUY / S.SELL | A smart signal that agrees with the longer-term trend. |
| TP1 · TP2 · TP3 (✕) | Points where the move may be stretched and profit could be taken. |
| Ribbon | The short-term trend, coloured buy or sell. |
| EMA 200 line | The long-term trend: the thick line. |
| Cloud | The broader trend zone, shaded behind the candles. |
| Candle colour | Every candle painted in the current trend direction. |
Signals appear once a candle has closed and do not disappear afterwards. The supertrend settings are shared with the Ladder Trader's mini chart and the Chart Analyst, so all three agree. Switch on the Supertrend alert to hear each new signal at candle close, even with the layer hidden (Chapter 25).
One composite score built from momentum, moving averages, VWAP, volatility, trend strength, Ichimoku, the accumulation / distribution phase, the POC and value area, and order flow (delta and volume). The needle runs from Strong Sell on the left to Strong Buy on the right.
Two ways to read the flow over time. The Order Flow Timeline names the phase of every candle in a strip under the chart. The Chart Analyst sums up the whole chart in one panel: the current signal, the nearest zones and the supporting readings.
| Phase | What it means |
|---|---|
| SELL PRESSURE | Persistent selling: delta and the close both point down. |
| CONSOLIDATION | Balance. No edge until the range or delta expands. |
| ACCUMULATION | A tight range with volume building, or selling being absorbed. |
| BUY IMBALANCE | Buying pressure building while price moves up. |
| INSTITUTIONAL ENTRY · BANKERS | A standout candle where range, volume and delta all break out. |
| MOMENTUM SHIFT · MOMENTUM | Strong movement in one direction. |
| DISTRIBUTION | Selling into highs, or buying met by heavy selling. |
| MANIPULATION · SWEEP | A stop-run: a level is swept and then reclaimed. |
The bottom row groups the phases: VOLUME ACCUMULATION (sell pressure, consolidation, accumulation), PRICE ACTION PROGRESSION (buy imbalance) and KEY ORDER FLOW EVENTS (institutional entry, momentum, distribution, manipulation).
A one-glance read of the chart: the current signal and how it is doing, the nearest supply and demand zones, the plan levels on a small signal chart, and supporting readings from the higher timeframe, order flow, volume and key levels.
| Market condition | What it shows |
|---|---|
| STATE | ACTIVE: the plan is live. WATCH: no plan yet. TP HIT, SL HIT or LAST SIGNAL: an earlier plan, history rather than a new entry. |
| BIAS | The direction: BULLISH or BEARISH. |
| PROGRESS | How far price has moved from the entry toward the target (positive) or the stop (negative), in R. |
| PULLBACK | The side and quality score of a return to the nearest zone. |
The Analyst describes what the chart is showing. It never sizes or places a trade, and a TP HIT or SL HIT line is a record of an earlier plan. Always make your own decision.
See the higher-timeframe footprint without leaving your chart. The HTF Candle panel shows the forming candle of the timeframe you pick, and the one before it, as full footprint candles beside your working chart.
The forming higher-timeframe candle on the right, the previous one on the left.
STYLE picks the footprint style for these candles only; the chart keeps its own.
Volume profile, summary table, candle stats, power trades and absorption bubbles.
Trade on a fast chart while watching how the bigger candle is being built: where its volume sits, its delta and its imbalances. Nothing here is sent to the broker.
Classic chart studies on top of the footprint: three moving averages, two VWAPs with optional deviation bands, a Donchian channel, Keltner bands and Bollinger bands. Each has its own switch and colour, and its name or length is written at the right-hand end of the line.
Moving averages smooth out price to show direction. A shorter average follows price closely; a longer one is slower and shows the bigger trend.
VWAP is the average traded price, weighted by volume. VWAP (SESSION) restarts at each session open. VWAP (VISIBLE) starts from the first candle on screen, so when you zoom out it gives one average for everything you can see, and it updates as you zoom.
The highest high and lowest low of recent candles.
A band around an average that widens with the typical candle range.
A band around an average that widens when price becomes more volatile.
Switching on a VWAP's 2SD or 3SD band also switches that VWAP on. VWAP (SESSION) restarts at the session start time set in the EA settings, the same time used by the session volume profile and SYS.CORE.
Mark up the footprint chart yourself: trendlines, rectangles and ABCD patterns, Fibonacci levels with golden zones, and a draggable price line that alerts you when price crosses it. Drawings are pinned to time and price, so they stay in place when you scroll or zoom.
When the list is full, the oldest drawing is replaced. Drawings last for the current session. Open the panel again to pick another tool or to switch the current one off.
Switch DRAW on, then drag from the start of a move to its end. 0% is where you press and 100% is where you let go; each level is a line across the candles inside the drag. A rally and a sell-off draw opposite ways.
SESSION GZ paints the buy and sell golden zones of the latest Asia, London and New York ranges. ZOOM GZ paints them on the high and low of the chart in view, the picture you get zoomed out. Both use the FILL %.
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Price line colour / thickness | How the line looks while not armed. |
| Drag grab tolerance | How close to the line the mouse must be to grab it. |
| Price line + Trade Manager: sound file | In the === Alerts === group. A .wav file in the MT5 Sounds folder; leave it empty for silence. |
| Arm above / below colour | The line colour when an alert is armed. |
HIDE turns the line and its alert off; alerts only work while the line is shown. The line is not kept after the EA restarts. For order-flow alerts see Chapter 25.
A live order-flow cockpit for the current symbol in one floating panel. Left to right: the Time & Sales tape, a mini price chart with MACD and RSI, an absorption column and the order-book ladder, with a five-cell stats footer along the bottom.
| Title button | What it shows |
|---|---|
| T&S | The Time & Sales tape. |
| CHART · RSI · MACD | The mini price chart and the two studies under it. |
| ABS | The vertical absorption column. |
| DOM | The order-book ladder. |
| FOOT | The stats footer. |
Drag the title to move the panel, the corner grip to resize it; R resets, ? opens the guide and X closes it.
POC (gold) is the most-traded price; the shaded value area between VAH and VAL is where about 70% of the volume traded. Pick total, buy, sell or delta, and the left or right side. It is built from the candles in view, so it re-scales as you zoom.
The header reads LIVE BOOK when your broker sends real market depth, or FOOTPRINT FALLBACK when the book is estimated from the tape. Many CFD symbols have no depth feed.
| Cell | What it shows |
|---|---|
| NET ORDER FLOW | The running session delta (net buying against selling) with its BUY / SELL split. |
| CANDLE DELTA | The same for the current candle only. |
| LIQUIDITY HEAT | Whether resting orders are stacked more on the bid or the ask side. |
| HTF DIVERGENCE | RSI and MACD divergence on your chart and M15 to D1: green bullish, red bearish, empty none. |
| ATR / ADX | Volatility (ATR) and trend strength (ADX), coloured for the trend, with a short history graph. |
Plan a trade and manage it on the chart. The Trade Manager draws your entry, stop and target with the money at risk and at the target. The Trail Coach draws a trailing line and a coach box to help you manage a trade that is already running.
| Row | What it does |
|---|---|
| ENTRY · ARM | The entry price. ARM starts at once: the part of the stop or target in front of price turns darker and moves with price. The lines still drag while armed. |
| STOP LOSS · TAKE PROFIT | Each price with the money at risk or at the target. |
| TAKE PROFIT 2 | Adds a second, further target. |
| % EQUITY · MONEY · FIXED LOT | Size the plan from a percent of equity, a money amount or a fixed lot, set in AMOUNT. The line below shows lots, risk, reward and R. |
| R LOCK | Keeps the target at the reward multiple when you move the stop. Changing the lot moves the stop and target so the risk stays the same. |
| FILL | How strongly the boxes are shaded. |
| ALERTS | An alert and a sound once when price crosses the entry, stop or a target. |
| BAL · EQ · SPR · CLEAR | Balance, equity and spread; CLEAR removes the plan. |
The Trade Manager only draws and measures. Nothing is sent to your account: place and manage real orders yourself in MetaTrader. X closes the panel and leaves the lines.
A trailing line that follows price and adapts to how fast the market is moving, leaning toward the prices where the most volume traded. Use it to manage a trade that is already running.
It sums up the trend, buying and selling pressure, imbalances and how close price is to the line, then gives a plain suggestion such as stay in, tighten stops or consider exiting. A warning appears when price crosses the line against the trend. [−] shrinks it to a COACH pill. It is a guide for your own decisions, not a signal on its own.
The Summary Table under the chart gives every candle a column of numbers, lined up with the candles above. The News Panel lists the day's economic releases from your broker's calendar.
| Row | What it shows for each candle |
|---|---|
| Volume · Vol Change | The candle's volume, and its change from the candle before. |
| Delta · Delta % | Buying minus selling, and the change in delta from the candle before. |
| Cum Delta | Running delta for the session. |
| Sess Vol | Running volume for the session. |
| Ask · Bid | Volume traded at the ask (buyers) and at the bid (sellers). |
| Range | The candle's high-to-low range. |
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Show summary table | Shows or hides the table under the chart. |
| Table row height | The height of each row in pixels. |
| Header / positive / negative colour | The Classic view's header, positive and negative cell colours. |
On a few candles Heat shows which numbers are biggest. Zoomed out across days it becomes the summary heatmap on the next page, one of the quickest ways to see where the volume came in.
Zoom out with the Heat view on and the summary table turns into a heatmap of the whole session. Every candle becomes a thin column and every row a band of colour, so days of order flow fit in one glance. The hottest cells outline where the most volume traded.
MetaTrader's built-in Economic Calendar from your broker feed: the day's releases, live and upcoming. No internet, API key or login needed.
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Hours of past events | How far back released events stay in the list (dimmed). |
| Hours of upcoming events | How far ahead the list looks. |
| High / Medium / Low colour | The impact colours. |
Switch on the calendar in MetaTrader: Tools › Options › Community (Economic Calendar).
Most tools are switched from their buttons and panels while you trade. A few settings shape the whole chart and live in the EA's Inputs tab. These are the ones worth checking first.
Click the chart and press F7, or right-click the chart and choose Expert Advisors › Properties, then open the Inputs tab. Press OK and the EA reloads with the new values. Settings are grouped by tool, with headings such as === General Settings ===.
Price buckets in points sets how tall each footprint row is. Every trade is added to the row for its price, so this decides how much detail each candle shows. The size is counted in the symbol's points (its smallest price step).
| Symbol quoted to | One point | Value 10 gives rows of |
|---|---|---|
| 2 decimals (e.g. gold 4101.40) | 0.01 | 0.10 |
| 3 decimals (e.g. JPY pairs) | 0.001 | 0.010 (1 pip) |
| 5 decimals (e.g. EURUSD) | 0.00001 | 0.00010 (1 pip) |
| 1 decimal (e.g. some indices) | 0.1 | 1.0 |
A smaller value gives more, thinner rows and finer detail. A larger value gives fewer, fuller rows that are easier to read in fast markets or on higher timeframes. Start with the default and adjust until each candle shows a readable number of rows. See Appendix A for suggested values.
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Number of bars to display | How many candles are shown when the chart first loads. |
| Hide the MT5 chart under the footprint | Hides MetaTrader's own candles, grid and scales so only the footprint shows. |
| Footprint style mode | The style the chart starts in. You can change it any time from the style list (Chapter 5). |
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Display resolution | Auto fits the layout to your chart. Off uses the 1920×1080 design size. Presets: 1366×768, 1600×900, 1920×1080, 2560×1440, 3440×1440, 3840×2160 (4K), 5120×2880 (5K) and 7680×4320 (8K). |
| UI size % | Makes every panel, button and text larger or smaller (50–300%), on top of the resolution setting. |
| Panel theme | Dark or Light panels and chart. |
| Bull / bear colour theme | Sixteen pairs: Classic green / red, Blue / orange, Cyan / magenta, Lime / pink, Gold / purple, Teal / coral, Sky / crimson, Mint / rose, Orange / dark grey, Green / dark grey, Navy / slate, Navy / gold, White / dark grey, Emerald / white, Cherry / teal and Olive / sandy. |
| Theme overrides all colours | Applies the theme to every colour, imbalances included, instead of your own colour settings. |
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Main panel position & size | Where the footprint panel sits and how big it is. |
| Ticker bar | Shows the header with symbol, price, change and the timeframe trend arrows; its height; the RETAILBERG name; and button names on hover. |
| Utility strips | Shows the top and bottom button strips, and their heights. |
| Price panel options | The gap between candles and the price scale, the main-chart volume profile width and an optional ASK line. |
| Text size options | The bid / ask number size, and how much larger imbalance numbers are drawn at levels 1, 2 and 3. |
| Font settings | The main font, the number font and the small, base and large font sizes. |
Candles, volume cells, imbalances (per style), delta, zones, sessions and most tools have their own colour settings in their groups. Many tools follow your bull and bear colours unless you change them. The full list of inputs is in Appendix B.
In the Inputs tab, Save writes all your values to a .set file and Load reads them back, so you can keep a setup per symbol or move it to another terminal. Saving the chart as a template keeps the EA and its settings together.
Switches you change from the buttons and panels on the chart are kept when you change timeframe. The Inputs tab sets the starting values each time the EA is loaded.
Let the chart call you. Order-Flow Alerts watch for power trades, absorption bubbles and stacked imbalances and tell you when a candle closes with one. Further alerts cover candle volume and delta, Supertrend signals, RSI divergence on each timeframe, both divergence tools, the SYS.CORE signal, the price line and the Trade Manager. Every alert setting sits in one === Alerts === group.
| Alert | Fires when a closed candle has | Threshold used |
|---|---|---|
| Power trades | One or more power-trade prints | PWR MINIMUM ORDER SIZE (Chapter 9) |
| Absorption bubbles | An absorption bubble (trapped buyers or sellers) | HVN MIN TRAP (Chapter 9) |
| Stacked imbalances | A stack of imbalances in a row | STK MIN STACK (Chapter 8) |
Every alert setting is in one group of the EA's Inputs tab, === Alerts ===. Each alert type has the same three settings:
| Setting | Default | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| On / threshold | Off or 0 | Switches the alert on. Volume, positive delta and negative delta use a number instead: each is off at 0. |
| …: pop-up window | On | On: MetaTrader's Alert window pops up with the message. Off: the message is only written to the Experts tab, with the sound. |
| …: sound file | alert.wav | The .wav file to play. Leave it empty for no sound. |
The Price Line Alert and the Trade Manager share one setting, Price line + Trade Manager: sound file.
C:\Program Files\MetaTrader 5\Sounds). Right-click the MetaTrader shortcut and choose Open file
location if you are not sure where it is installed.bigbuyer.wav, into the sound setting for that alert. If the file cannot be found, the EA writes "Alert sound not found" once in the Experts tab (Toolbox › Experts). Check the spelling, the .wav ending and the folder. In the Strategy Tester sounds are always silent; that is a MetaTrader limit.
| Alert | How to switch it on | When it fires |
|---|---|---|
| Power trades | Power trades: alert on candle close, with PWR on. | A closed candle has power-trade prints. |
| Absorption bubbles | Absorption bubbles: alert on candle close, with HVN bubbles on. | A closed candle has an absorption bubble. |
| Stacked imbalances | Stacked imbalances: alert on candle close, with STK on. | A closed candle has a stack. |
| Candle volume | Candle volume: type a volume (0 = off). | A closed candle's volume reaches that number. |
| Positive delta | Positive delta: type a number (0 = off). | A closed candle's delta reaches +that number (buyers). |
| Negative delta | Negative delta: type a number (0 = off). | A closed candle's delta reaches −that number (sellers). |
| Supertrend | Supertrend: alert; optionally only S.BUY / S.SELL. Works with the layer hidden. | A closed candle prints a BUY, SELL, S.BUY or S.SELL signal (Chapter 16). |
| RSI divergence | One switch per timeframe: chart, M15, M30, H1, H4, D1. No panel needs to be open. | A new RSI divergence, regular or hidden, on that timeframe. |
| Divergence pane DIV | Divergence pane: alert (on by default), with the DIV pane open (Chapter 15). | A new bull or bear divergence on the chart's timeframe. |
| Delta Divergence panel DELTA | Delta Divergence panel: alert (on by default), with the DELTA panel open. | A new divergence on the panel's timeframe, against CVD or per-candle delta. |
| SYS.CORE signal SESS | SYS.CORE: alert, with SYS.CORE open and SIGNAL on (Chapter 12). | The intraday signal changes between LONG and SHORT. |
| Price Line Alert ALRT | Arm ABOVE or BELOW on the price line (Chapter 20). | Once, when price crosses the line in the armed direction. |
| Trade Manager TRD | Switch ALERTS on in the panel (Chapter 22). | Once each, when price crosses the entry, stop or a target. |
Each message starts with the symbol, timeframe, alert type and candle time, then lists what was found (the prices and sizes below are examples):

| Price Line / Trade Manager | XAUUSD crossed ABOVE 4098.49 · XAUUSD crossed STOP LOSS 4009.73 |
Prices and values above are examples only.
With the DIV pane or the DELTA panel open you will get divergence alerts straight away. A divergence already on the chart when it opens does not alert; only new ones do. Switch the setting off if you only want to read them.
Each switched-on timeframe is checked when a new candle opens on it, so an H4 alert can only come at most every four hours. The first check after loading only remembers what is already there, so changing timeframe never sets off a burst of old alerts.
Use numbers like the ones in the summary table under the chart (Chapter 23). Positive and negative delta have separate thresholds, pop-ups and sounds, so buyers and sellers can sound different. On symbols without real traded volume they are counted from price ticks, so set the threshold for each symbol and timeframe.
The Trail Coach, PO3 phases, sessions, FVGs and zones draw on the chart but do not raise alerts in this version. Watch the chart for these, or use a Price Line Alert at the level you care about.
Start with one or two alert types on the symbols you trade most. Raise a threshold if an alert fires too often, and give each alert type its own sound. Alerts point you to the chart; always check what the order flow is doing before you act.
Replay past markets with the full footprint chart. Because Footprint Chart Pro is an Expert Advisor that never places orders, the Strategy Tester becomes a practice room: watch the order flow build candle by candle, try every tool and learn to read the chart without risking anything.
| Modelling | For the footprint |
|---|---|
| Every tick based on real ticks | Recommended. Uses your broker's recorded ticks, so the footprint, delta and order-flow tools are built from real price changes. |
| Every tick | Ticks are generated by MetaTrader, not recorded. Fine for trying the tools; the numbers will not match the live chart. |
| 1 minute OHLC / Open prices only | Too few ticks for a footprint. Candles show, but the cells have little or no detail. |
The first test on a symbol downloads its tick history from your broker, which can take a while. Starting with the latest 3 days keeps that first download short, so you see the chart quickly and can check everything works. How far back real ticks go depends on the broker.
Every visual test opens with a STRATEGY TESTER · QUICK START panel: how to get around in the tester, the highlights to try first (favourites are marked) and a list of everything else on board. Close it with its X, or it closes by itself two minutes after the test starts.
| Feature | In the Strategy Tester |
|---|---|
| Ladder Trader book | No live market depth is replayed, so the book is estimated from the tape (FOOTPRINT FALLBACK). |
| Alerts | Pop-up windows and sounds do not play in the tester. Turn an order-flow alert's pop-up off and its messages are written to the tester's Journal instead. |
| Economic news | The News Panel needs MetaTrader's live calendar, so it may show no events during a test. |
| Non-visual tests | Without Visual mode nothing is drawn; there is nothing to see, so always tick Visual mode. |
Pick a session you know, slow the speed down around the open, and watch how the footprint, delta and bubbles behave at key levels. Pause, zoom in on the ladder and read the numbers before you let it play on.
Most questions have a quick answer. Find what you see in the left column and try the fix on the right. The Experts tab of MetaTrader's Toolbox (Ctrl+T) is the first place to look for any message from the EA.
| If you see this | Try this |
|---|---|
| The EA is not in the Navigator | Check the .ex5 file is in MQL5 › Experts of the data folder (File › Open Data Folder), then right-click Expert Advisors in the Navigator and choose Refresh. |
| It replaced another EA on the chart | MetaTrader allows one Expert Advisor per chart. Open a new chart window for Footprint Chart Pro. |
| The chart is empty or still loading | The first load downloads the symbol's tick history. Wait a few moments, check the connection in the bottom-right corner of MetaTrader, and make sure the symbol is in Market Watch. |
| MetaTrader's own candles show under the footprint | Set Hide the MT5 chart under the footprint to true in the Inputs tab (Chapter 24). |
| If you see this | Try this |
|---|---|
| Candles show but no numbers | You are zoomed out. Point at the price ladder and scroll up (Chapter 4). Numbers hide when cells get too small and return as you zoom in. |
| Rows are too thin or too tall | Change Price buckets in points (Chapter 24). Smaller gives more detail; larger gives fuller rows. |
| Older candles look smoother than recent ones | Candles older than the footprint history have no volume at each price, so profiles there are estimated from the candles. Zoom in on recent candles for exact detail. |
| If you see this | Try this |
|---|---|
| Volumes look small, or the same on every tick | Many CFD and forex symbols send prices but no real traded volume, so volume is counted from price ticks. Read the footprint for where activity was heavy (Chapter 3). |
| A tool shows nothing | Check its button is switched on and its panel is not set to HIDE. Some tools only draw in candle view (zoomed out), such as Supertrend Signals; boxes need enough candles to form. |
| Too much on the chart | Switch off tools you are not using. Raise a tool's threshold (MIN TRAP, MINIMUM ORDER SIZE, MIN STACK) for fewer, stronger marks. |
| If you see this | Try this |
|---|---|
| A panel is off-screen or the wrong size | Press R in the panel's title bar to reset its size and place. Panels can be dragged by the title bar and resized with the corner grip. |
| Everything is too big or too small | Set Display resolution to Auto and adjust UI size % (Chapter 24). |
| The chart feels slow | Close panels you are not using, lower Number of bars to display, and avoid running several heavy charts in one terminal. |
| Drawings or the price line disappeared | Drawings and the price line last for the current session and are not kept after the EA restarts. Save your inputs as a .set file or a chart template (Chapter 24). |
Three resets cover most surprises: Reset in the header (button 1) returns the zoom and view, R in a panel's title bar returns that panel to its starting size and place, and Reset in the EA's Inputs tab restores every setting to its default.
| If you see this | Try this |
|---|---|
| The Ladder shows FOOTPRINT FALLBACK | Your broker does not send market depth for this symbol, so the book is estimated from the tape. Nothing is wrong. |
| The News panel has no rows | Switch on MetaTrader's calendar: Tools › Options › Community (Economic Calendar). |
| An alert fires but there is no sound | Use a .wav file in the MetaTrader Sounds folder and type its exact name. Look for Alert sound not found in the Experts tab (Chapter 25). |
| An order-flow alert never fires | Its tool must be switched on and the closed candle must meet the tool's own threshold. Only candles that close while the EA runs are checked. |
| If you see this | Try this |
|---|---|
| The first test takes a long time to start | Run your first test on just the latest 3 days of history. The tick download is short; test longer periods once that works. |
| The mouse wheel does not zoom in the tester | In the Strategy Tester, click and hold the left mouse button on the price ladder and drag up or down (Chapter 26). |
| Nothing is drawn in a test | Tick Visual mode before you start the test. |
| Footprint cells are empty in a test | Set Modelling to Every tick based on real ticks; 1 minute OHLC and Open prices have too few ticks. |
Remove the EA from the chart and attach it again, or restart MetaTrader. If the problem stays, note the symbol, timeframe and any message in the Experts tab, take a screenshot and contact RETAILBERG support.
No. Footprint Chart Pro is a visual tool that never sends orders. Even the Trade Manager only draws and measures a plan; you place real orders yourself in MetaTrader.
It reads tick history, draws its own panels and responds to your mouse and keyboard, which MetaTrader allows Expert Advisors to do. Being an EA does not mean it trades.
Yes. Many CFD and forex feeds send prices but no real traded volume, so volume is counted from price ticks. Where your broker sends real traded volume, for example on futures, the footprint uses it (Chapter 3).
Any symbol in your MetaTrader 5 Market Watch. Set the row size with Price buckets in points; Appendix A suggests values.
M1 to M15 are the easiest for reading individual footprint candles. Every timeframe works: zoom out on the price ladder or use the HTF Candle panel for the bigger picture.
Yes, one copy per chart. Each chart has its own settings. Several busy charts use more computer power, so close panels you are not using.
Yes. Change timeframe or symbol and your style, panels and on/off choices stay as they were. Changing the inputs, or attaching the EA again, applies the inputs afresh.
The forming candle updates until it closes, as any live chart does. Closed candles are rebuilt once from the full tick record and then locked. Signals, absorption bubbles and order-flow alerts are judged when a candle closes and stay in place.
Each broker has its own feed. Prices, tick counts and volume differ between brokers and between CFD and exchange data, so the numbers will not match another source exactly.
Only MetaTrader's normal connection to your broker. The News Panel reads MetaTrader's built-in economic calendar.
Yes: Dark or Light panels, sixteen bull and bear colour pairs, and separate colour settings for most tools (Chapter 24).
Yes. Replay past days in the Strategy Tester (Chapter 26), or attach it to a demo account.
★ marks the key core features, the tools most worth learning first.
No. The tools show what the market did; they do not tell you what to do. Read the risk disclaimer in Chapter 1 and always make your own decisions.
Check Troubleshooting (Chapter 27) first. If you still need help, contact RETAILBERG support with the symbol, timeframe, a screenshot and any message from the Experts tab.
Plain-English meanings of the terms used in this manual, with the chapter where each is explained.
Starting values for Price buckets in points (Chapter 24), the row size of the footprint. Set the value for each symbol in the EA's Inputs tab, then fine-tune until each candle shows a readable number of rows.

Row size = price buckets in points × the symbol's point, its smallest price step. The same value gives different rows on brokers that quote a symbol with more or fewer decimals. To check, right-click the symbol in Market Watch, choose Specification and look at Digits: 2 digits means a point of 0.01, 3 digits 0.001, 5 digits 0.00001.
The same market can be listed under different names, for example US30 or DJ30, NAS100 or USTEC, DE40 or GER40, SP500 or US500, and some brokers add a suffix such as .m or .pro. Use the row for the market, whatever your broker calls it.
Every setting in the EA's Inputs tab, in the same groups and order as MetaTrader shows them, with its default value. Most tools can also be changed from their buttons and panels while you trade; these inputs set the starting values.
